Get Involved with JOTA at the 2025 Boree Regatta!
Friday 17th – Sunday 19th October 2025
Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) is an exciting opportunity for Scouts and Guides to connect with others around the world using amateur radio – and it’s a big part of the Endeavour Boree Regatta weekend!
Whether you’re a qualified amateur radio operator or just interested in ham radio or JOTA or a Guide/Scout leader, there are many ways to get involved with Jamboree On The Air, as follows;
-
In the weeks leading up to the JOTA weekend, there are various preparation tasks ranging from administration to preparation and testing of equipment,
-
Friday afternoon of the JOTA weekend, assisting with setting up (bump in) of the radio and associated equipment on site at Kurnell,
-
Friday afternoon / evening of the JOTA weekend, assisting with taking bookings from leaders, for their guide or scout groups to participate in the two JOTA activities,
-
Saturday and Sunday of the JOTA weekend, whilst the JOTA activities are in progress (WWCC required), assisting with;
-
operating the amateur radio station and facilitating the hidden transmitter "fox" hunts.
-
as guide and scout groups arrive, liaising with leaders and operators to coordinate groups with the allocated activities
-
support youth members who wish to obtain the Radio Challenge Badge.
-
- Sunday afternoon of the JOTA weekend, assisting with pack down (bump out) of the radio and associated equipment on site at Kurnell,
Do you need a Working With Children Check (WWCC)?
To ensure the safety of youth members, everyone assisting during the JOTA weekend, must have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC). In NSW, a WWCC is issued by the Office of the Children's Guardian. For further information or to apply or check your WWCC, go to https://ocg.nsw.gov.au/working-children-check
If you are just assisting with tasks outside the JOTA weekend, including the setup (bump in) and pack down (bump out), then a WWCC is not required.
Do you need a current amateur radio qualification?
A current amateur radio qualification is only required for actual operation of radio equipment. For all other tasks, either prior to or during JOTA, an amateur radio qualification is NOT required.
Amateur radio operators with any level qualification, including foundation, are most welcome.
